Waiting for a Rainbow

For family and friends not in Nashville, our city is flooded. I'm not kidding. Most of our neighborhood is fine and our basement is surprisingly dry. But elsewhere in the city is not so good. Grocery stores and preschools are entirely submerged under flood waters. Houses and churches are floating or submerged. People have lost homes, cars and more. Opryland Hotel is out of power and relocating 1500+ guests to a local high school, guests who are hungry and waiting for what's next. Imagine. Thousands have been evacuated from neighborhoods, and at least 24,000 people are out of power. A woman had to give birth in a canoe! An elderly woman, who was bed-ridden, was rescued in the nick of time, just as the water was at her neck. People please pray. Farmers have lost fences, animals, entire spring crops. The city has a curfew; no one is to be out until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Fortunately, all at our house are fine. Currently, our city water is safe to drink. They are asking us to conserve water, however. Creeks are now rivers, and the Cumberland River (which runs right alongside downtown) is nearly invading downtown streets. The river is still rising and no one knows how high it will go. This is crazy. It is the most flooding ever recorded in our city's history. So, all we can do is check on friends and neighbors, help those in need (there are many), and wait for the waters to recede.

More to come, as we know it. We are all stunned. No one predicted this. You can see it for yourself at the local news websites: Channel 4 NBC or Channel 5 ABC.
